Mimpi ♥ Urbanscapes Always And Forever

Mad lovin' to everyone who dropped by the Mimpi Murni booth at Urbanscapes last Saturday! Here are some pictures from that day taken by my bestie, Farhan, on his iPhone's Hipstamatic (I'm soooo jealous!). Get ready for lots & lots of pictures!

More pictures of the Mimpi Murni booth over here!

Right now, I'm busy with trying to catch up with my emails (it never ends) that I sadly had to neglect while I got ready for Urbanscapes. I also have a date with my vacuum cleaner & mop as the apartment, especially my little craft room looks like a tornado hit it at full force! So I hope you'll be able to excuse me while I step out for a day or two to sort out the shambles of my life. I knew you'd understand!

Be back soon! XOXO

Toko Ohmori

I just adore the dreamy, faraway look that the subjects of Toko Ohmori's art seem to have. Makes me wonder what they're thinking of...

Wii Gets Crafty

Looks like everyone is finally getting that crafting is cool huh? Even Wii has a new game called Kirby's Epic Yarn™ due late this year, which incorporates a crafty look and feel to its graphics.

Taken off the site: "Kirby's first console platform game since the Nintendo 64™ days introduces an amazing new look based on animated yarn and a world of cloth and textiles. The creative approach is woven directly into the game play and allows the ever-morphing Kirby™ to take on a variety of new forms. It's a one-of-a-kind platformer that lets players explore high and low for hidden objects and fun adventure"

Been meaning to get a Wii for awhile now for "exercise" purposes.... perhaps this might just be the push I need to go out & get one? Hehehe ;)

Natsko Seki

Natsko Seki's mix of illustration, collage, and use of color in her artwork are dream-worthy. I would love to have something like this hanging in my little studio office to remind me to go out & have fun!

New World

You gotta know by now that I love papercut art. You didn't know? Why, I've blogged about my love here, here, here, here, here, here, here & here. Coincidentally, I've also blogged about the fabulous Famille Summerbelle who are responsible for this EPIC piece of work, a paper cut world map. Watch the video to see "more than 20 hours of meticulous paper-cutting squashed into a little more than 2 minutes of film!" You'll be in awe, I promise.

P/S: The completed print is available here.

Mad Hatter Tea Party

This has got to be the best Alice In Wonderland themed party I've seen so far! To be specific, it's a Mad Hatter Tea Party for a very lucky 10 year old Jayme & you can check out the rest of the pics here. My award for best dressed goes to the guys below dressed as Tweedledee & Tweedledum. Cute but kinda creepy too...

The Craft Party Is ON!

Based on the response I got via Twitter yesterday, I think we're good to go with the Craft Party idea I blogged about. I was soooooo excited yesterday (actually, I'm still really excited!) that I whipped up a little something to keep my hands occupied while my brain was busy plotting...

A little embroidery always calms me down... I did everything freehand hence
the lack of tidiness! Hehe

I have to work out the logistics like venue, what sort of project(s) & how much it's gonna cost but I can tell you this for sure that the event will be held next month & that I will be keeping it small. And I mean small. Like probably only 10 20* people max as this will be the first event of it's kind in KL & well, honestly? I'm scared this might blow up in my face somehow! Touch wood. If the event is a success, insyallah, I will host it on a bi-monthly basis.

*Based on the response on Twitter, I will open up applications & cap off  participants at 20 instead of 10.

And so my lovelies *deep breaths*, if you're someone who loves crafts, crafts all the time, doesn't get to craft much, wants to craft more or craft crazy & regardless if you're male or female, young or old do drop me an email at mimpi.murni@gmail.com with the header "Craft Party, I Want To Join!" I'll put you in the mailing list & as soon as I have the details pinned down, I'll send you an email & seats will be reserved on a first come, first served basis. Sounds good?

Eeeeeeeee, I'm SO excited!

Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time... from Capucha on Vimeo.

I want to adopt her! My fave part is at 1:51. I dare you not to melt!

Craft Party Anyone?

You should know by now that I'm a huge fan of Etsy & if you love crafts, you should love Etsy too! Now, the last couple of weeks I've been hearing rumblings about the launch of Etsy Craft Party which is (to quote the website) "a global initiative to energize your local community, make art together, and throw a party in your neck of the woods. We want to celebrate crafting together on June 18, 2010 (which just happens to be Etsy's birthday) with as many celebrations across the globe as possible."

How can you not want to get in on that?!?

However. June 18 is only a mere 3 days away & from the last time I checked in on Etsy's Craft Party Meetup page, no one in KL has taken the helm to organise it (I would've done it earlier myself but I had other commitments plus I need to prepare for Urbanscapes happening the following weekend). So, I propose to you my fellow craft lovers, how about we have our own little Craft Party next month instead? I think it'll be an awesome opportunity to meet up with kindred spirits & learn a new craft or two while we're at it! Let me know if you lovely people are game & I'll set the cogs in motion 'cos I love a good party & this idea has really got me excited! How about you? ;)

Favela Painting

I just love this paint treatment that these buildings in a Rio de Janeiro favela (or shanty town) sport! Talk about a techni-color rainbow huh? The Favela Painting team of Dutch artists Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn (also known as Haas&Haun) partnered up with a crew of locals to help instill residential pride. A-ma-zing!

Product Photography Tips

Hi again! Thought I'd pop in to share with you darlings a really interesting article I just read on Etsy's Storque. Click here to read some really excellent photography tips by heidiadnum. I learnt a new thing or two about product shots by just reading partway through!

Uniform Project Year 1

Yesterday's post reminded me of a little something I blogged about last year but as I had to rush out to run a couple of errands, I couldn't snoop around. So the first thing I did this morning was to check out the Uniform Project's site...

You can read my post about the project here but do check out the official site & read all about their fantastic year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation which is a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing education in India & helps fund uniforms and other educational expenses for children living in Indian slums. To date they have raised over US$95,000 & are in the midst of planning Year 2 to raise more funds! Hats off to Sheena for not only coming up with so many ingenious & creative ways to wear a single dress but for having such a big heart. Kudos.

New Dress A Day

I've been on a sewing spree of late & this post I spotted on CRAFT has got me all fired up. "If you are in need of fashion inspiration, head on over to New Dress A Day. For the entire year, Marisa is using her creative sewing skills to come up with a refashioned outfit from a thrift store find. And get this, her budget is $1 a day!" Don't you just love the before & after shots? Sewing machine, here I come!

P/S: This project reminds me of the Uniform Project I blogged about last year.

A Cosy Bed

While on a kiddy fun hunt today, I came across this image of a bunk bed pretending to be a house complete with a little staircase made me gasp "oh!" I'd love to know who made this or which lucky girls get to tuck in to this lovely bed, so if you have any idea please leave a comment below. Thanks so much!

Circus Room

How can you not love this fantasy child’s bedroom that designer Kate Dixon dreamt up? Kate somehow managed to turn a drab room into a circus wonderland where whimsy and functionality manage to meet. She built a giant spinning ferris wheel toy storage unit & turned old pallets into fun custom furniture. The look was further finished with circus illustrations & chalkboard walls. Even as an adult, I'd love to have a room like this!

Sewing Nook

I just love this sewing nook belonging to Danielle from the Thompson Family Life blog! Apparently Danielle loves all the same things that rock my worl - retro colors, bazaar style & vintage kitsch amongst other things. FYI, I moved the Mimpi operations into my fiance's spare bedroom not too long ago... so I bet you can imagine how I'm itching to start decorating it & these pictures aren't really helping placate that itch!

Hop on over to Decor8 to see the rest of the set up.
