Sick Leave

Sucks to be me right now folks. I have a fever & my laptop just won't start so as someone told me on Twitter today, it's probably a sign that I should take a little time off to recharge. So I'm going to sleep off my fever this long weekend & pray to the Tech gods that my lappie will be ok when I go pick it up from the shop on Sunday. In the meantime my darlings, please excuse my absence from the blog & your emails may go unanswered for awhile but fret not, I'll work on it when I'm feeling better. Happy Raya Aidil Adha!

Edit: I just found out that all the data on my laptop has been corrupted INCLUDING all my back up data. I'm so screwed but thank God for Google Docs & Flickr. All is not lost.

Faire House

Who would've thought plates masquerading as clocks by Faire House could look so chic and functional? These images make me wish I was brave enough to drill a plate since fitting in a clock mechanism would be pretty simple... Now where did I put that drill & goggle?

DIY Heating Pads

Christmas is practically a month away & I've been on a look out for something nice & thoughtful to give my family members who celebrate. At the same time I'm looking for a something that's not going to break the bank so what's my solution? DIY of course! And I think I might have stumbled onto a solution which will come especially handy for those cold, rainy days we've been getting....

Yup, heating pads! Here's a great little tutorial filled with plenty of handy tips in case you want to make them yourself. I made one for myself awhile back for my menstrual cramps & it works like a charm so I'm hoping my loved ones will enjoy them too. It's a super simple project & I honestly can't wait to get started! Off to find some pretty fabrics now... Happy Monday all!

Handmade Nation

The following was taken off the official Handmade Nation website:
Handmade Nation documents a movement of artists, crafters and designers that recognize the marriage between historical techniques, punk and DIY (do it yourself) ethos while being influenced by traditional handiwork, modern aesthetics, politics, feminism and art. Fueled by the common thread of creating, Handmade Nation explores a burgeoning art community that is based on creativity, determination and networking.

In 2006 first time director Faythe Levine traveled to 15 cities, interviewing 80 individuals. Levine captured the virtually tight-knit community that exists through websites, blogs and online stores and connects to the greater public through independent boutiques, galleries and craft fairs. Interviews were also conducted in artist studios and homes of the featured makers.

And I'n super excited to find out that it's now available on DVD! You can get them here or here & I'm getting a copy of my own for sure as I'm an ardent supporter of all things Handmade (as you, dear readers, know).

Check out the trailer below. It's going to make you want to shout "Yaaaay, Go DIY!" & it especially makes me especially proud to be part (albeit a small part) of the movement :)

Updates!

Hey ya lovelies! After working my butt off over some custom orders all week after Chic Pop last Sunday, I finally have a little time to update my now very empty blogshop with a few new designs & classic remakes. So mosey on over to Earrings, Necklaces, Bracelets & More to check out my latest offerings! Hope you'll ♥ them.

By the way, how do you like my new business/jewelry card folks? I gave Dura the talented maven of The Fashion Forest free rein & she came up with this dreamy little lady that I'm lovin' right down to the little cleft on her chin & voluptuous lips! Look out for a copy of this card in your next order from Mimpi Murni!

In other news, I'll also start carrying a small line & limited line of The Fashion Forest on the blogshop soon along with some exclusive calendars & Xmas cards so once that's up you'll be the first ones to know, I promise! I also have some limited edition t-shirts by Mia Palencia that I'm super excited to share with you real soon so stay tuned.

In the meantime, have a look around my latest jewelry collection & have a great weekend my lovelies! XOXO

Emma

I have to admit that I am a HUGE Jane Austen fan. I've read all of her books & keep multiple copies of Pride & Prejudice at home along with a digital version on my iPhone. However, Emma has a very dear spot in my heart as it was the very first Jane Austen book I picked up at 16 after finding out that Clueless was based on this particular book (yes, yes, I love chick flicks too!). Ever since then, I devoured all of Ms Austen's work. So imagine my delight when I found out that the BBC has a new Emma series showing & someone has kindly uploaded the series on YouTube! Thought I'd share it with you just in case you're as big of a fan as me ;)

47 Meters Is All You Need

Yup. This house is only 47 meters & I love it. It's simple without being minimalistic, chic without being frou frou & modern without being dated. Simply put, it's perfect.

DIY Russian Nesting Doll Card

It's no secret that I love Russian Nesting Dolls or Matryoshkas (amongst other things) so imagine my delight when I found this cute & simple little tute on how to make your very own card version! Complete with easy to follow instructions & template, needless to say I'll be raiding my scrapbook paper stash soon to make a few of these babies.

Christine Edwards

Oh, no! So. Cute. Must. Succumb. I love these done-up-doggies looking all smart & formal in their bow ties & ties by Christine Edwards. I want to get a print but which one, which one?? They're all so freakin' cute (not to mention funny)! If only she had an English Cocker Spaniel like my own fur babies, I'd snap it up in a heart beat.

P/S: The scruffy Terrier mix wearing a vintage tie kinda speaks to me. Although the Coton de Tulear wearing a vintage bow tie with his little tongue sticking out looks so gosh-darn adorable! What do you lovelies think?

Mimpi Murni At Chic Pop

Thought I'd show you my table set up at Chic Pop yesterday before the mobs of people descended Zouk (excuse the crappy shots as all I had was my iPhone). I was on my feet throughout most of the day, talked practically non-stop, finished 3 packs of business cards & I now have custom orders to last me for a good solid 3 days of work. Needless to say, I slept 11 hours last night (& most of this morning) & I still feel exhausted! Nevertheless, I better get cracking on those orders!

But before I go back to my worktable, I just want to say thank you to Tongue In Chic for inviting Mimpi Murni back for Round 2 & as usual, you guys put on an excellent bazaar! Never been happier, honestly (I'm really going to miss Valene as she leaves the TiC team but I'm looking forward to seeing more of Crystal). Also, it was really, really great to meet those of you who have been following me online. I truly appreciate that you took the time to drop by my table to say hi & introduce yourself as I never fail to get a kick out of meeting you guys!

Oh, and here's a final shot. This was the foyer of Zouk when the crowd of people had already subsided somewhat & I took a quick second to snap this picture. Now, imagine when there were more people & you'll get a better idea of how packed the place was!

Are you dying for Round Three already? Let the folks at Tongue In Chic know!

Furoshiki

Furoshiki gift wrapping from RecycleNow on Vimeo.

Taken off this neat little site: Originating from Japanese culture where it promotes caring for the environment and reducing waste Furoshiki is the eco-friendly wrapping cloth. Using techniques similar to origami, it can be used for gift wrapping, grocery shopping or simply as decor. It is reusable and multipurpose. Each year billions of plastic bags end up as litter; reusable bags, such as furoshiki can help reduce the impact to our environment. Its versatility allows you to wrap almost anything regardless of its shape or size.

Check out the variety of techniques that you can use to wrap that special present!

Sunday Sunday Sunday Sunday Sunday Sunday!!

Don't forget our date this Sunday at the Chic Pop Street Market k? The bazaar will be open from 12 pm - 7 pm & I'll be located at the foyer of Zouk, right between the entrance to the Main Room & Velvet, and next to The Click Shop (I'm predicting a new & fun little camera in my future)! See you there my lovelies ;)

Oh, and here's the map to Zouk just in case you've never been there before (Gasp! Really??).

Ryan + Jade

The man & I had 2 weddings to attend last Halloween but since Bobby took on Heng Tai* duties at one wedding we missed out on Ryan & Jade's big day. So imagine my delight when Bobby sent over a link to this video montage shot of their wedding! Aaawww, don't you think Ryan & Jade look so happy? Congratulations you lovebirds!

P/S: I got to give props to the videographer for capturing Ryan & his groomsmen funky moves (at 2:57 if you were wondering). Inspired by the Corona eh? Hehehe.

*Meaning "brother" in Chinese, a Heng Tai is basically a groomsman who has to put with with some "abuse"... it's fun, trust me! You can read more about this Chinese custom here.

My Milk Toof

These stories over at My Milk Toof have me charmed off my socks! I mean, what's not to love?? Adorable story line? Check. Great photography/illustration? Check. Charming characters in the form of baby milk teeth? CHECK.

The story goes that when creator Inhae Renee Lee was young, she placed her baby teeth under her pillow and when she woke up she found a shiny new quarter. Many years later, a little tooth was standing at her door. Its name was ickle (note the lowercase I). Her milk tooth had returned, and it brought along a friend named Lardee! Since this homecoming, Inhae has begun documenting their return.

How can you resist? Click on over & be charmed too!

I'm Pretty

I took this color profile quiz & the results are pretty spot on! Although I like bright colors when it comes to accessories & decorations but if I had to paint my house in a color I'd use soft, pretty shades. Try it out yourself & see if it's as accurate ;)

Melanie & Sky

OMG. I am so in love with Melanie & Sky's wedding! I didn't think it was possible to fall in love with a wedding (a guy, yes but a wedding???) till now since this wedding has all the details I love - it's quirky, colourful, incredibly original & everybody danced! It's not a cookie cutter wedding that's for sure! Check out the pictures below...

Neck nuzzling is my second favourite thing to do besides cuddling with my man

I love the unexpected touch of the feathers in this bright bridal bouquet

The bridesmaids wore different colored dresses in shades of pink, red, orange & yellow.
And they carried (eco-friendly) balloons instead of flowers!

The couple took one year of Tango classes & wowed the crowd for their first dance! Love it.

And then they danced, danced and danced the night away with their friends & family.

Even their DJ was awesome! Michael Antonia of The Flashdance made a stop motion video taken from the DJ console & came up with this lovely piece below. I'm so jealous.

Peace, Love & LOL

I put this up here to share with you because 1. I've always loved this song "Chasing Pavements" by Adele Adkins, and 2. I think this guy is SO cute (I never could resist a guy with a dweebish sense of humour & a nice voice). Enjoy it ladies! ;)

Recuperating

Just thought I'd pop in to tell you kind folks that I haven't been feeling well since Friday so if you've been waiting for a reply to your email please accept my apologies while I take the weekend off to recuperate. I've been curled up in bed for most of yesterday but braved the heat this afternoon for some awesome banana leaf rice to boost my lack of appetite. Now I'm back in bed, snuggled up & ready for another sleep marathon. I promise I'll be back on Monday, bright-eyed & bushy-tailed. Hope you all are having a great weekend so far! xoxo

Daily Drop Cap

Mis for Mimpi. Like that fancy decorative initial cap I just used? Then check out the Daily Drop Cap which is "an ongoing project by typographer and illustrator Jessica Hische. Each day (or at least each WORK day), a new hand-crafted decorative initial cap will be posted for your enjoyment and for the beautification of blog posts everywhere." They're super simple to use & there are new alphabets to check out everyday too! Neat.

Tree Bookshelf

I seem to be on a decor binge lately so I hope I'm not boring you... Yet! Anyways, how can you not love this tree bookshelf from the talented Shawn Soh of Korea? Beats Ikea's bookshelves any day in my humble opinion.

Soft Rock

Rocks in your home? Well, you'd definitely want these soft rock cushions of Stephanie Marin's LivingStones & designer Ronel Jordaan because they not only look good & oh so minimal but they're, well, SOFT! Check out the picture with the kids diving into the rock cushions. So fun!

Rock on anyone? (I crack myself up sometimes)
