Adzwan + Lynda's Happily Ever After

I love customers who have offbeat ideas & are willing to try anything. This is why I had so much fun working on Adzwan & Lynda's akad nikah or solemnisation dais for yesterday (the dais was provided by Felda & the chair by the famous Pak Abu who also decorated the couple's reception).

Lynda is a big Little Mermaid & Disney fan, so naturally she wanted an underwater fantasy themed wedding. As a diver & Disney fan myself, this was totally up my alley! I didn't want to turn things too hokey though as an akad nikah is such a special & intimate affair, so I kept the floral arrangements sweet & very simple as requested by the family, while adding in elements that reminded me of corals & seaweed, like Hydrangea, Pincushion Protea, Celosia Cristata, Dusty Miller & Eucalyptus plus of course, some sea shells my own father gifted my mother many years ago.
My favourite flowers for this particular project were the different varieties of Ginger flowers I managed to find so I also added them to the bride's hand bouquet (pictured below) along with a couple of clay starfishes I handmade myself. The groom's boutonnière has a small sprig of Hydrangea I plucked off the bride's bouquet along with a one of my tiny little starfishes (which I forgot to take a picture of along with the guest table centrepieces *slaps forehead*).

As I'm still fairly new to floral arranging, I still have tons to learn so I am grateful for every opportunity that comes my way. Thank you & congratulations Adzwan & Lynda! May you live happily ever after...

Home Sweet Home: Leah Goren & Dylan Ousley

I love this sneak peek of the home of illustrator & surface pattern designer Leah Goren & her graphic designer boyfriend Dylan Ousley. Mainly because it reminds me of our own apartment with its mismatched furniture the landlord threw together & the art, prints, plants, memorabilia & various tchotchkes Bobby & I have collected over the years. Check out more pictures of their apartment over at Design Sponge.

I Love Blogsy

If you've noticed I've been blogging quite a bit more than usual. Ok fine, given my absence these last couple of months, a HECK of a lot more! That's all thanks to a new app I just discovered for my iPad: Blogsy. It's so easy to use & tons better than any other iPad or iPhone Blogger app I've used before. For example, to share media like pictures or videos from your various social platforms like Flickr, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or Vimeo, all you have to do is drag & drop... no html formatting required! I can safely say the USD4.99 I spent was well worth it & you'll be hearing more from me as I'm practically glued to my iPad mini.

Here's a screenshot of this very post. Oh and on a sidenote, I like to split my keyboard as it just makes it easier for me to type with my thumbs while holding up the iPad. In case you don't already know how, to split you just drag the keyboard apart with your thumbs & to unsplit it, just swipe them back together. Does that make sense? Wait, here's a video with a thorough explanation...

How cool is that? I discovered this function by accident one day while fiddling around with the settings (in case the above doesn't work for you, you either need to upgrade to the latest iOS or just switch on the function at your keyboard settings).

Anyways, looking forward to more blog time thanks to Blogsy. See you around folks!

Seeing Eye People

Just a few days ago I witnessed a guy, busy on his smartphone, collide into a pillar at KLCC! The incident makes me think that this Seeing Eye People satire by Improv Everywhere might just be a very viable business. I know I've had a few close calls in the past while walking & texting (or tweeting or reading or replying emails) so I'm game to try it out! ;P

Filem: Worlds Away

I will never forget the time I got to watch a live Cirque Du Soleil performance. I was down in Florida, checking out the Universities there with my father. Since we are big Disney fans, we visited all the Disney parks too & decided at the last minute to catch a Cirque Du Soleil show at Treasure Island, without really knowing what it was or what we were in for. It was magical to say the least & easily the highlight of our trip.

Thanks to the wonderful directing of Andrew Adamson & cinematography of James Cameron, now anyone can catch a Cirque show. I rented Worlds Away on iTunes for USD4.99 & have watched it 3 times in the 48 hours I have. Simply put, it's a love story & incorporates acts from the seven Cirque du Soleil shows running in Las Vegas in 2011: O, Mystère, Kà, Love, Zumanity, Viva Elvis and Criss Angel Believe which all culminates with an aerial courtship between the two main characters.

Words can not even begin to explain the artistry that goes into each if Cirque Du Soleil's performances so my advise is that you just watch it & be prepared to be mesmerised.

Want: Fjallraven Kanken Backpack

Fjallraven backpacks
With all the adventure travelling we do, Bobby & I usually carry backpacks while on the move as they're really handy to tote essentials & to stow away. I have an ancient EastPak that I've had since my boarding school days & although it's still going pretty strong, I think it's time I get a replacement. I've been shopping around for a simple & classic backpack that's hardy, water resistant & not crazy pricey (hello, USD795 Anya Hindmarch Maxi Zip Backpack). Enter Fjallraven Kanken. Simply known as the Kanken, it's been around since 1978 & it's incredibly popular in its home country of Sweden not to mention in countries like the US & UK. I love the squarish shape & the top handles but most of all, I love all the colours they come in! I'm having a very, very hard time choosing one but I'm leaning towards gender neutral coloured ones like Frost Green. Warm Yellow or the combination of Navy & Bright Red. Which would you choose?

Post-GE13

Everyone needs to do their part so go cast your votes kawan-kawan (if you haven't already done so) ✌
Fellow Malaysians, I'm sure you've had it up to your eyeballs hearing & reading people's reactions to the General Elections of 2013 so I'm not about to bore you as so many others have expressed my thoughts & sentiments better than I ever could. All I want to say is I'm proud of us. Proud of us for going out in record numbers to vote. Proud of the majority us who have accepted the results with stoicism, positivity & humour (a certain hashtag had me giggling all of last night). BN won, but barely. PR lost, but gained so much more. I hope with all my heart our newly re-elected Prime Minister will make good on his promises, especially on the issue of so-called "national reconciliation." Shame on him for playing the race card though & if this is the way BN is starting things off, the next 5 years will be "interesting," to say the least.

Here are some links that I think are good reads…

Anyone come across any good articles from BN supporters, leaders or party members, send the link my way. Much appreciated.

Salam 1Malaysia :)

I'm Still Around

What a loooong leave of absence! What can I say besides the usual "sorry, I've been super busy" or the rather ambiguous "sorry, I wish I had more hours in a day"? Truth is, I haven't felt like blogging.

I'm dealing with an issue, something that I'm going to keep to myself for now but what I can share is that life feels a little muted to me nowadays. You know, a little less bright & sharp; a little fuzzy around the edges. But I know one day once I've pulled myself up like I've had dozens of time before, I will share my experience with you.

In other news, I have been really busy with event styling projects which has helped with the doldrums by getting my creative juices flowing. Something that started on a whim has grown into a whole other arm of Mimpi Murni & it keeps growing! I am truly blessed. Here are a few pictures of some of the projects I've worked on…

Star Wars cupcakes by RollyPops. Love all the little details! Everyone from Leia to an Ewok to Jabba the Hut were represented.
Custom mineral water & Kit Kat bar labels I did awhile back according to the client's specific request. I love minimal design like this, truth be told.
Kanchini's baby shower at Marmalade, Publika.
Closeup details of yesterday's party.
One of the gift baskets as requested by @rozaila_z for some special people. Fleur de sel caramel popcorn, chocolate fudge, chocolate pastilles plus flowers in shades of hot pink, purple, orange & yellow. The yummy onesie shaped butter cookie is by @pearlc
Champagne colored roses, green Eustomas, soft Green Mist, orchids & various Mums.
Bobby & I have also been doing a little travelling whenever we can most notably Awanmulan of Negeri Sembilan last weekend & it was just what I needed. It's the perfect place to get some peace & quiet up in the clouds. Check out the website & you'll be mesmerised, I promise.

Arrived safely & looking forward to some R&R at this gorgeous retreat up in the clouds.
Roof & corridor at Awanmulan. Love the use of louvered windows & slats throughout the house.
Cooking has also been keeping me pretty busy. I cook mostly dishes that I grew up with but I'm also slowly building a repertoire of somewhat "fancier" dishes I can easily whip up like Salmon Fish Head Curry & Coq Au Vin (both not pictured here).

I recreated one of my favorite childhood dishes: steamed pomfret in soy sauce with ginger & tomatoes garnished with coriander & fried onions + garlic. Accompanied by stir fried baby kailan, carrots & broccoli. This is my idea of comfort food #onlyinasia
Rosti, an egg sunny side up, caramelised onions, smoked turkey slice & baby pea sprouts.
Soft boiled ayam kampung eggs, toasted
Grilled teriyaki salmon buried under sautéed potatoes & baby pea sprouts dressed with plain ol' lemon juice + salt + pepper.
I have a lot of plans in the works & a lot more things to share with you so I hope you dreamers can bear with me a little bit longer. I will eventually pull myself out of the doldrums & in the meantime, I'll soldier on. Hope everyone out there is doing good.

x, Murni

Another Cambridge Satchel

58
This little 11" rose gold baby from Cambridge Sacthel is being made for me as I type this. On a whim yesterday I checked out CS's website & found that the bag I was lusting after since last November was half-off so without further thought, I added it to my cart, checked out & bang, I'm the proud owner of yet another CS! My red 15" Batchel (it's the classic satchel with a top handle) is my go to work bag (seen here & here) but I wanted something smaller for casual days out & I think this rose gold version will just be that touch of fancy that will elevate any old outfit I lazily pull together. I'll share pictures when it gets here k? I'M SO EXCITED!
