We Were On Bella NTV7!

our little set up
Michelle's soaps & ingredients
ingredients needed for body scrubs
tshirt refashioning!
behind the scenes
Tallest, taller, short. L - R: Michelle, Daphne & me.

Yours truly had the honor to be on Bella of channel NTV7 a couple of weeks ago with Michelle of Kinder Soaps. We were interviewed by the effervescent Daphne Iking & shared with her our DIY passion. I showed Daphne some of the things we’ve whipped up during our HandmadeKL craft parties like refashioning old tshirts & how to make your own sugar body scrub (which Daphne is holding up in the picture above), while Michelle actually made soap on set! How cool is that?

I wasn’t as nervous as I thought I’d be on a LIVE show because Daphne made it a lot of fun & it turns out she actually has quite a lot in common with Michelle & I as she loves to craft too! We chatted during commercials so when the cameras were back on it just felt like we were continuing the conversation & we were showing a friend how we do our crafts. It was only after the whole thing that it sunk how Daphne was such a fantastic host that she was able to keep us from feeling nervous & kept the whole conversation bubbly & fun! I am officially in awe of show hosts now. It’s not an easy job eh?

Oh and before I forget, shout out to Hazie, Albert & the rest of the Bella crew for being wonderfully nice & so accommodating. You guys rock!

And I’m Back!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
Sorry to keep disappearing on you folks. I’ve been swamped with work & loving every minute of it but missing this blog oh so desperately! If you’ve been following me for awhile now, you’d know that I started out selling handmade jewelry, followed by lipbalms, buntings, throwing craft parties & now I find myself doing event styling! Crazy, right? To you, it might sound like I’m all over the place (sometimes I think so too) but in retrospect, I feel like it’s a natural progression of what I started out to do: to craft for a living & to share my love of crafting with as many people as possible. I thank my lucky stars every day that I get to do exactly that!

P/S: Does anyone know who’s the artist behind this? I can’t seem to find the info.

DIY: Polka Dot Decals

This is genius, I tell you! When I saw this tutorial over at Fellow Fellow, I had an overwhelming urge to break into my washi tape stash & polka dot all the walls in my house till I remembered I married a man’s man. Bummer. Ah well, a girl can dream right?

Brittany Bass

This organic art installation entitled exit piece by Brittany Bass was a true labor of love. Made with dozens & dozens of hand printed paper and fabric using relief and mono-print techniques which are then hand-cut into hundreds of different shapes like tear drop, loop, feathered & triangle, and assembled onto a lightweight fabric that allowed the paper and fabric pieces to fold and have their own movement once hung. The entire piece is made of seven different fabric pieces & hundreds of mounted triangle pieces; in it’s initial hanging it spanned 15 feet!

Grains Of Sand

Who would’ve thought grains of sand could look this pretty? Yeah, me neither. The picture above is an ultra magnification that reveals worn a nautilus spiral, a pink shell fragment, foram, a microscopic shell, volcanic melt & bits of coral. Now, I’m longing to go diving again.

The Story Of Keep Calm & Carry On

Thanks to Elly for sharing this video on twitter today, I’m even more enamored with the iconic Keep Calm & Carry On poster. Love this little background story of what must be one of the world’s most popular poster & to find out that it was unearthed in such a lovely bookstore delighted me to no end! Even though it’s been replicated & parodied to death (my favorite one being “Keep Calm & Marry A Prince”), I still love how the simple phrase resonates & it will always have a special place in my heart.

Threaded Art

dominiquefalla-7
dominiquefalla-5
I know I blogged about Dominique Falla’s work before but I just unearthed some new images & thought I’d share. Using thread, nails, and immeasurable patience, Dominique creates these intricately woven and brightly colored messages on walls. Aren’t they amazing? You can see more of Dominique’s process here, and all you type fans will definitely want to check out her blog, Tactile Typography.
