Lace Pumpkins

With Halloween is just around the corner, I bet you party-hearty folks are ready with your decorations. But in case you’re not ready or want to stay away from the usual store-bought decorations, here’s a really nice DIY tutorial with the Mimpi Murni stamp of approval. It’s no surprise that these lovely, lacey, cut-out pumpkins are from the creative folks of Martha Stewart. Have fun with this & Happy Halloween!

Make Do & Mend

Loving this vintage Singer sewing machine print by Clare Owen plus the saying “Make Do & Mend” is just perfect to remind me to take it easy on my bank account & is my new mantra... But not till I purchase this print (which is on its way to me as I type this!). He he he.

The World Spins Madly On

A beautiful, dreamy song that you wish would go on & on by The Weepies, who are my new fave singing duo. I’m going out a little later to see if their latest album Be My Thrill has reached Malaysian shores. In the meantime, enjoy The Weepies playlist on YouTube.

Love this shot of the singing duo who are also husband & wife. How cool.

La Photo Cabine

Recently I found myself fixated on the idea of having a real, vintage photo booth for my wedding. Unfortunately it’s proving to be quite impossible to get one here in Malaysia unless I build one myself! Oh well, at least I can imagine being in an authentic photo booth thanks to La Photo Cabine with just my trusty webcam & laptop. Have a go, it’s lots of fun ;)

Chotto Omoshiroi

Amy of Pikaland is an inspiration. First off, she runs an art & illustration blog that’s filled with beautiful & inspiring things she finds on the internet (sound somewhat familiar?). She is also the mastermind behind some exciting projects such as PikaPackages & the zine Good To Know. And to top it all off, she is now an indie publisher of limited edition books & zines under the moniker Pikabooks, & will be dedicating a portion of profits to First Book, an organization that focuses on providing books to children in need in an effort to combat illiteracy. My hero.

Pikabooks’ inaugural zine entitled Chotto Omoshiroi is hand drawn by Mogu Takahashi & it teaches you how to speak Japanese. The zine will be bundled with an A2 size poster for you to pin up your wall, and is available in a limited edition of 200. You'll also be happy to know that with each set that you purchase, one child will get a book in return. How cool is that? (Psst! Use the code YAYPIKA at checkout & you’ll get 10% off your order but hurry, cause the code expires this Friday, 22nd Oct)

I really can’t wait to see more exciting things from Amy (who is Malaysian by the way & based right here as I’m sure most of you will be excited to know). Watch this space!

I have the same IKEA table which I’ve covered with fabric too! I’d like to flatter
myself now by saying, “great minds think alike.” Hehehe

Home Sweet Home

I just love this print by Seb Lester available at Keep Calm Gallery. Not only is the screenprinted typographic illustration swoon-worthy but it’s printed on wonderfully mesmerizing Miri paper which makes this something extra special in my books. Too bad the price is a little out of my reach otherwise this baby would be on its way to me as I type this. Oh well, at least I’ll be able to admire it from here.

Homemade Is Best

IKEA is my idea of playland. Sometimes during the middle of the workday, I’d take a couple of hours off & drive myself down there simply to browse the displays & dream of my dream house while having a plate of the Swedish Meatballs. I never leave empty handed too but that’s not the point of this blog post. I’ve been hearing that IKEA just came up with a new baking book “Homemade is Best” & although it’s in Swedish, I think I’d get it just for the innovative food styling & great photography.

Here’s what the masterminds, Stylist Evelina Bratell and photographer Carl Kleiner, had to say for themselves: “We let ourselves be inspired by high fashion and japanese minimalism. The idea of the book became to tone down the actual cake and put the ingredients in focus. The recipes are presented as graphic still-life portraits on a warm and colorful stage. And when you turn the page you see the fantastic result.”

Have a looksee…

Confetti System

I would love to work in an office as colorful & sparkly as Confetti System’s studio (shown above) where love of communal celebration and craft-making meet. Their most recent project was decorating the venue of Creative Inc’s New York book party & I can’t help but think that the next (literally) big thing will be the oversized tassel. What do you think?

Audrey & Pippin

Audrey Hepburn is my ultimate style icon. She’s classy yet eccentric & when I read that she had a pet dear she named Pippin, or Ip for short, I just fell in love with her a whole lot more.

Golden

If you’ve noticed my blog posts are somewhat bleh this week as I’ve been busy with some issues concerning my home, which is a condominium run by a shoddy (& shady) management company with a megalomaniac as its chairman. So please excuse me for a little while k?

Anyways, these pictures by Sarah Smiley look so ethereal & golden-lovely, I just had to share it with you today despite whatever worries I may have. Hope you’re having a great day so far.

DIY Milled Soap

Ever since I switched to using as much natural body products as I can get away with, I’ve amounted quite a large collection of handmade soaps made with natural ingredients, no preservatives & no animal testing or animal by-products. So I was very intrigued when I came across this tutorial of how to make your own milled soap. I might just give it a go one day.

Your Secret

Your secret from Jean-Sebastien Monzani on Vimeo.

The following was taken off Jean-Sebastien Monzani’s Vimeo description of the video above: ”"Your Secret" is a movie about you.Something quite different as compared to my other works, this short movie evokes a complicity between the spectator and the narrator. Something cheerful, something mysterious, something simple, something that hopefully maybe brightens your day. Hope you'll like it.”

I liked it, indeed.

It’s such a beautiful & inspiring gem of a video. After watching this, I feel so inspired to make something new, just for myself. How about you?

Guiness Cake

My man loves to have a pint of Guiness at the end of the work day. So much so that I’m actually contemplating trying to bake this Guiness cake by Irish-born and Sydney-based food photographer/food stylist Katie Quinn Davies. Good intentions aside, I have to admit I can’t cook to save my life so I’m secretly hoping some of you bakers out there can bake this for me (I’ll pay you to!). Please email me if you’re up for it ;P

Ice Cream

I’ve always loved Sarah McLachlan & this video of her performing live with her then-hubby, drummer Ashwin Sood a simple love song just made me love her even more. Enjoy!

Your love is better than ice cream
Better than anything else that I’ve tried
And your love is better than ice cream
Everyone here know how to fight

And it’s a long way down
It’s a long way down
It’s a long way down to the place
Where we started from

Your love is better than chocolate
Better than anything else that I’ve tried
Oh love is better than chocolate
Everyone here knows how to cry

It’s a long way down
It’s a long way down
It’s a long way down to the place
Where we started from...

I’m An Advanced Diver!

OMG, I had the BEST EVER dives over the weekend! Visibility underwater was clear for at least 20 – 30 meters at all the dive sites around Tioman which is almost unheard of & I’m so happy to see that coral bleaching which was so widespread a few months back is now under control. Getting my Advanced certification was surprisingly easy even though I thought I was going to royally screw up Underwater Navigation (I had never held a compass prior to last weekend) & freak out during the Night Dive, but man, it was all a breeze! Of course, it helps that I had such an awesome instructor (also known as my fiancĂ©) & the guys that I did my certification with were so much fun to be around that I felt no pressure whatsoever.

I can’t wait for our next dive trip but that will have to wait till after our wedding in April next year. Till then, I’ll be dreaming of clear blue waters, colorful coral reefs, marine life big & small…
