Let's Colour

Taken off this site:
"The Let’s Colour Project is a worldwide initiative by Dulux to transform grey spaces with colourful paint and spread color all over the world. This 2 minute global film was shot by multi-award winning director Adam Berg over four weeks in Brazil, France, London and India. Every location is real and they remain transformed by a palette consisting of 120 different colours. The people in the film are not actors, they are real people who rolled up their sleeves to transform their community with colour."

Awesome idea! I wonder if we can get something like that going here in KL....?

Dancing Penguins

At my post on Penguin's book cover postcard yesterday, Charlotte left me a comment to check out her friend's exceptional wedding invitation. My oh my, oh my! Based on the postcards (and their very cool blog), I think Ferguson & Athalia are a couple I'd love to get to know :)

Postcards From Penguin

I think I've mentioned before I have "mild" obssession of collecting classic Penguin books right? Being a booklover (more like bookworshipper) imagine my delight when I heard that Penguin is issuing a collection of 100 postcards, each featuring a different iconic book jacket. That's over 70 years of classic British design in one box! Swoon. I'm placing an order at Kinokuniya now!

Etsy Headquarters

Here are some behind the scenes office shots of my favorite on online retailer of all things handmade. Can you guess? Etsy of course! The office houses 75 employees & the wonderful Etsy Labs which gave birth to the Craft Party idea. Don't you just love how everything looks so eclectic & whimsical? DIY rules!

Chronicle Books

I love books. In fact, I spend quite a pretty penny on books every month, be it on my current obsession of Penguin's Classics (that's a whole other post!) or craft books. And the one publisher of craft books that I just love love love is Chronicle Books.

It all started with this book, Handmade Nation, that I had to specially order from Kinokuniya & haven't looked back since! I now have a whole library of various titles from Chronicle Books. Personally I think they have a finger on the pulse of the whole DIY movement that's sweeping the world right now & they have published books from the best of the best in the industry. Here are some books I can't wait to get my hot, eager paws on...

Mimpi ♥ Craft Party!

Hello lovelies, sorry for the late post. I just got up from a coma. Didn't realise I was so tired & sleep deprived until the Mod Podge, paint brushes & jelly molds were safely packed away. After that I just crawled into bed at about 6pm & didn't get up till oh, about 12pm just now. Crazy.

Anyways, I'm glad to report that the party yesterday was so much fun & no major boo boos occurred (although I have a feeling that this group would've forgiven me of anything as they were so lovely). I really couldn't have done it without the support from all the lovely people who came & the oh-so-nice folks of Wondermilk.

The above is a snap shot by Liza of the party-goers minus 5 who had to leave a little earlier. Will share more pictures & my experience over at handmadeKL ;)

Sugar Robot

Edible butterflies anyone? Yes folks, these lifelike butterflies by Sugar Robot are completely edible! Made with wafer paper (potato starch, vegetable oil, water) & edible ink these delicate lovelies are printed on a food safe printer, cut out by hand then lightly brushed with a coat of organic orange flavoring which not only gives the butterflies stability but a light shine & a delicate orange flavor. Too bad they don't ship to Malaysia though but a girl can dream can't she?

Letters To Crushes

Oh man. Where was this site a billion years ago when I had that mad crush on a boy & I felt I was going to explode unless I told someone but I couldn't because well, I just couldn't!

In case you're wondering what I'm rambling on about, Letters To Crushes is a simple site which lets you pour your heart out (anonymously) to your crush & to the delight of many who will get to read it including your crush (hopefully). I just love all the adorable, heartfelt posts but this particular post just slayed me (Cynthia of That Girl Cynthia loves this post too! Great minds think alike I say)...

To the girl at the table near the back of the library -

I almost asked you what was wrong the first time I saw you crying. Then I saw the book you were reading, and realized that you were crying because of it. And I was interested, because I'd never read anything that moved me that much.

I checked out the book you were reading, and guess what? I cried - just a little - too. That's how it started. Every time I go to the library, you're almost always there, usually with a completely new book. Sometimes you smile, or laugh out loud, or cry again, and when you do, I check out the book you're reading.
That was it, really, until I realized how gorgeous you are. You're not pretty in the normal kind of way, but god, when you smile, it lights up your face in the best way.

I wish you'd notice me, sitting a few tables away from you, reading the book you were reading a few days ago. I wish you'd smile at me. I don't have the guts to talk to you. I'm afraid you won't be anything at all like I imagine.

One of these days, I'll work up the courage and I'll ask you about what you're reading. And maybe you'll smile that gorgeous smile and tell me all about it, and then we'll talk about all the books we've read. But until then, thank you for the book recommendations. I love them.

Love, the boy a few tables away from yours

From the title above I bet you'd never guess that it's the name of a magazine right? Yup, Unicorn Dream is magazine. To be precise, it's an online magazine about dreams, life, love, handmade crafts and a bit of vintage fashion. Excited yet? Wait till you check out the photography...

Mimpi ♥ Craft Party!

Hey ya lovelies! In case you haven’t already heard but I’ve been hard at work organising KL’s very first Craft Party! More info at my brand new blog, handmadeKL.

What is a Craft Party you might be asking? Basically it’s a party where people who like to craft (or wants to craft more or never gets to craft but wants to learn a new skill) get together & work on a project over drinks & giggles. Here’s how it all started.

For the very first party, each participant will be doing a decoupage project. Decoupage is just a fancy word for the art of decorating an object by gluing paper cutouts onto it & it’s really simple yet the results can be oh so rewarding! Here’s an example I made below with a tealight candle holder & some vintage clipart I’ve been collecting over the years which I will be sharing at the party.

The fee is only RM30 which is inclusive of 1 cupcake & 1 drink of your choice at Wondermilk plus materials such as a tealight candle holder, a vial of Mod Podge glue, some collage sheets & fine tip paint brush. All you’ll need to bring is a small cuticle scissors such as these.

And so my lovelies if all of this sounds like your cup of tea, please fill in the form NOW as seats are limited to 20 pax! The details are as below:
date: 18 july 2010 (sunday)
time: 10am - 12pm
venue: wondermilk cafe, 41 jalan ss 21/1A damansara uptown 47400 petaling jaya
project: decoupage tealight candle holder
fee: RM30 (1 cupcake + 1 drink, all materials excluding small curved scissors)
remember, seats are limited to 20 pax
more info at
Looking forward to partying with you guys next Sunday!

The Summer Day

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

The Summer Day is a poem I just discovered by Mary Oliver that has given me goosebumps. Hope you enjoyed it.

Home Is Where The Heart Is: A Tiny House

Sandra Foster's home was recently featured in the NY Times & it's not just any ol' home. She turned a Catskills hunting cabin into the romantic Victorian cottage she had always wanted on a USD3000 budget! Isn't it just dreamy? I can't help but wonder if in fact this house belongs to fairies instead of a human lady....

As if I don't have enough blogs to manage already, I added another one to my rather extensive list... say hello to handmadeKL folks! There isn't much info yet in the blog but this is where I intend to share all info of the upcoming Craft Party plus all other craft related events around town. Perhaps in the future I might also feature a couple of my favourite local crafters? We'll see. Anyways, your input is much appreciated as always.

P/S: I had a lot of fun playing around with Blogger's new template designer. If you're on Blogger you should give it a whirl.... now I'm trying to figure out how to migrate this current layout to the new one!

DIY Photo Wall

Hello again. Sorry for the extended bout of silence. Didn't expect to be away for so long but things were kinda crazy for a bit then Maxis broadband decided to go all slow on me. I think it was the universe's way of telling me to slow down, don't you think so too?

Anyways, lookee what I found! A great, easy little DIY photo wall tutorial complete with a template & clipping mask (if you're handy with Photoshop, go nuts with that). I love how linear it all looks & it's such a throwback to my days as a young, pre-pubescent girl, so crazy about New Kids On The Block that I had their posters all over my walls. Like, from floor to ceiling, I kid you not!
